Head Start

The Head Start Program is a free, comprehensive child and family development school readiness program available to income eligible families in Ashtabula County.   School readiness means that children are ready for school, families are ready to support their children’s learning, and schools are ready for children.

Head Start offers services to families with children ages 3-5 years old within either a Center-based or a Home-based option.  Each of these options identifies a mix of classroom, socialization, and in-home sessions.

Head Start involves the participation of the whole family in the development and education of the child in preparation for the transition to kindergarten.

Early Head Start

A home based program offered to pregnant women, infants and children up to the age of 3 years old.  It is a full-year program providing comprehensive services to families through either a Center-based or a Home-based option.  Each of these options identifies a mix of classroom, home visits, socialization and regular screenings.  Early Head Start involves participation of the whole family in the development and education of the child in preparation for transition to Head Start.

Parent Engagement

A key component of the Head Start/Early Head Start program is the engagement of the parents in the activities of their child.  Parents are truly the child's "first teachers."   Parents can assist in the classroom, read to their child, participate in Parent Meetings or Policy Council, assist on the bus, or volunteer at outreach events.
